We are a group of former and current self-represented litigants who are interested in supporting other individuals who are in the process of representing themselves or who are faced with the prospect of doing so. We hope to offer support, information, and resources that are relevant for each province.
As members of CASSL, we hope to address the issue of access to justice by creating social and political awareness of a serious problem with our current legal system. The current system is extremely difficult to navigate without counsel. The complexity and lack of resources takes an emotional toll on individuals who attempt to represent themselves. We hope to provide support and information for individuals who are unable to access legal counsel.
CASSL hopes to be a source of information for those individuals faced with representing themselves. It is hoped that this website will be a hub where quality and relevant information is organized by province. We intend to link to information related to filing court documents, document templates, general information about seeking unbundled legal services, paralegal services, and organizations that may offer volunteer legal services. Information about legal aide may be posted as well.
It is our hope that CASSL and this website will provide opportunities to connect with fellow SRLs who are willing to offer support through email, telephone, and meetings.
Our goal as CASSL is to change the SRL experience. Our purpose is to improve access to justice and lower the emotional, personal and financial trauma going that to court has for all Canadians.
